About
The Project
This website has been created as part of a Masters of the Science degree in Medical Art for the University of Dundee.

The aim of this project is to raise awareness of the impact that sensory challenges can have for people living with dementia and their families. This project ran from May - August 2020 and accompanies a written masters thesis.

The main part of this project was the creation of the animation which was made using Adobe Software: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Premier Pro.

The animation tells the story of four fictional characters who live with the effects of sensory challenges and dementia. Their stories are based on research from a range of online resources including inspiration from public interviews and first-hand accounts from people living with sensory challenges and dementia.

A questionnaire was also taken by healthcare professionals and carers to help pinpoint the most challenging effects that sensory changes can have on daily lives. This questionnaire, along with further research, inspired the What can you do? section which focuses three main themes: Design, Communication and Travel & Transport.

About
The Artist
This website, including the animation and illustrations have been created by Laura-Jane Logue, a Learning Technologist and Content Developer for the University of Dundee, Scotland.

Laura-Jane has always been fascinated by the senses and the way the brain functions. Her body of work involves a range of topics, including more projects to raise awareness and change the perception of older people. This includes sculptural work depicting the physical effects of people living with long-term eating disorders over the age of 65 and a project to raise awareness of Charles Bonnet Syndrome.
Observation of Alternate Perception (O.A.P) is a sculptural piece which asks the audience to look through the eyes of a fictional character, Ned, who lives with Charles Bonnet Syndrome, which is caused by the brain's reaction to visual impairment. The aim of the project was to help improve perceptions of older people.

Since working as a Learning Technologist, Laura-Jane has learned much more about web accessibility and continues to develop and improve this website. She also continues to develop work which raises awareness of little known or misunderstood medical conditions.
